About the Trek
The Tungnath and Chandrashila trek is a beautiful adventure in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, featuring the highest Panch Kedar temple, Tungnath, at 3,680 m.
Starting from Chopta, this 3.5 km trail takes trekkers through lush green meadows and Rhododendron forests, and breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
After visiting Tungnath, a 2 km uphill trek leads to Chandrashila peak (4,000 m), offering panoramic vistas of Nanda Devi and Chaukhamba.
The nearby Deoria Tal trek from Sari village also provides captivating mountain views and a peaceful forest setting.
ITINERARY
DAY 1 - DEHRADUN TO CHOPTA (198 km drive)
The tour's first day starts from Dehradun to Chopta. Along the way, you'll pass Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers merge to form the Ganges.
After about six hours, you'll arrive in Chopta, surrounded by lush Deodar, Rhododendron, and Oak trees, marking the beginning of your adventure.
The second day begins with an early morning trek to Tungnath, which takes about three hours. The route offers stunning mountain views, attracting nature lovers.
After visiting Tungnath, one of the highest Shiva temples, trekkers ascend to Chandrashila, a 4,000-meter peak offering panoramic view of the Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba.
Following some time at the peak, trekkers descend back to Chopta for an overnight stay. The peaceful surroundings of Chopta provide the perfect setting to relax after a day of adventure.
DAY 3 - CHOPTA - SARI - DEORIA TAL - DEHRADUN
(19 km drive, 6 km trek, 226 km drive)
On the final day, visitors will take a short ride to Sari, the starting point of the Deoriatal trek. The gradual uphill trail, lined with dense deodar forests. Upon reaching Deoriatal, visitors can relax by the peaceful lake, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views.
The serene environment is perfect for meditation or simply unwinding in nature’s beauty. In the early afternoon, trekkers descend back to Sari and head to Dehradun, concluding the journey.
